JOSE GARCIA DAVIS - Film and Theatre Artist

     Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico I have resided in Los Angeles, California since 1994 with my lovely and talented wife, choreographer/dancer/actress Licia Perea, with whom I frequently collaborate. A film, video, theatre and visual artist, I am a partner in The Hollywood Casting Couch (a pun on Hollywood and casting a fly fishing rod), a production company that produces fly fishing and tying DVD’s (  I am on the Board of Directors of The Latina Dance Project ( and directed and created video for our touring show Coyolxauhqui ReMembers.  As well, I’m the Vice President of the Board of Directors for Teatro Nuevo Mexico     ( As part of a Latina Dance Project production in Los Angeles at the Bootleg Theatre, I just performed a dance duet with Licia to the live music of Lysa Flores and her trio. In addition, I’m collaborating with the Latina Dance Project in the creation of a new multi-media dance/theatre work “The Slumber of Reason”, and also I’m collaborating with musician/composer Michael Archuleta on a new musical - book and lyrics by yours truly. In July I will perform my one-man show The Devil and Forty Chickens at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) as part of Teatro Nuevo Mexico’s season. I premiered the show (which I wrote and directed) at the 2008 Vancouver International Storytelling Festival where it was a rousing success!   In 2008 I played  starring roles in Teatro Nuevo Mexico and the NHCC’s very successful productions of the zarzuelas (Spanish operettas) La Corte de Faraon (with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra) and El Barbero de Sevilla.      
     In 2007 I directed the premiere (and played the principal singing role) of my musical play, The Magdalena Cantata (music by Rush Tully) as a joint production of Teatro Nuevo Mexico and the NHCC. I also produced and production designed The Miracle of Hsin Tao, a yoga DVD with Ratziel Bander, among other projects.
    I have been Director of Theater for Environmental Awareness with U.S.-China Environmental Fund, Artistic Director of two New Mexico based theatre companies, Teatro Consejo, and Oso Amarillo Productions, and Associate Director of Latino Chicago Theatre Company and La Compañia de Teatro de Alburquerque.  In addition. I have been an Acting Coach Mentor for Scholastic, Inc., Artist-in-residence for L.A. Theatre Works, Homeland Cultural Center, Long Beach, CA and the New Mexico Arts Division, Artistic Director of Evidence Room’s RampArt Youth Theatre Project, Los Angeles, and more.
    I have performed and directed nationally and internationally on the stage as well as worked on dozens of feature films, commercials and music videos as a performer, production designer, art director, prop master,   mask maker and sculptor.   My visual art has been in quite a number of galleries and art shows.
